The Department of Laser Engineering and Optoelectronics awarded a master’s degree to the student (Reem Abdulmajid Hanoun), majoring in laser engineering, for her thesis entitled:
(Implementation of Ultrashort Pulsed Fiber Laser Based on High Nonlinear Fiber as Saturable Absorber)
On Monday 24/2/2025, this study aims to design and implement an erbium-doped pulsed fiber laser (EDFL) based on a germanium-doped core photonic crystal fiber (Ge-doped core photonic crystal fiber (Ge-PCF)) as a saturated absorber. The thesis involves developing an optimal PCF design with high nonlinearity and low containment losses, simulating and analyzing its optical properties across the mid-infrared wavelength range using COMSOL Multiphysics 6.1. The study also included the inclusion of the saturable absorber in an EDFL system to test its performance in generating ultrashort pulses.
The discussion committee consisted of Prof. Dr. Mohamed Jalal Abdul Razzaq as chairman, Prof. Dr. Abdullah Khudair Abbas as supervisor, and Prof. Dr. Aseel Abdul Amir Shaghati, Prof. Dr. Inas Abdul Karim Khalid as member.
